Kongsberg Maritime ASA has entered into an agreement to acquire Swedish propulsion systems supplier Berg Propulsion AB, broadening its coverage of commercial and naval vessel markets.
The transaction was announced on 12 July 2026. Its financial terms were not disclosed. Kongsberg Maritime said the purchase price was set at approximately the same EV/EBITDA level as the current pricing of Kongsberg Maritime ASA.
Headquartered in Gothenburg, Berg Propulsion designs and manufactures integrated propulsion and electrical systems. The company employs approximately 400 people and has an installed base of around 4,000 vessels.
The acquisition will combine Kongsberg Maritime’s position in high-value, performance-driven vessel segments with Berg Propulsion’s presence in general cargo ships and product tankers.
After the transaction is completed, Berg Propulsion will retain its brand and operate independently under the Propulsion & Handling division of Kongsberg Maritime.
The combined portfolio will include controllable pitch propellers and thrusters, hybrid and electrical propulsion systems, and integrated vessel control solutions.
Kongsberg Maritime also plans to support Berg Propulsion’s installed base and future deliveries through its global service network. The companies have identified potential cross-selling opportunities involving Energy & Control products in Berg Propulsion’s core segments and propeller systems for naval applications.
In 2025, Berg Propulsion generated revenues of approximately MEUR 160 following growth over the previous five years. Kongsberg Maritime, then part of Kongsberg Group, recorded revenues of MNOK 27,123, up 10 percent from 2024.
Kongsberg Maritime has more than 8,300 employees in 35 countries, with its systems installed on more than 30,000 vessels.
Completion of the acquisition depends on the required transaction conditions being met and regulatory approvals being secured.
