Heerema Fabrication Group has completed the first roll-up of a major structural section for the IJmuiden Ver Beta 2GW jacket at its yard in Vlissingen.
Two large cranes lifted 1,700 tonnes of steel and brought the section into an upright position during the operation last week. The section forms half of one of the jacket’s two towers.
Roll-ups of the remaining main structural sections will follow. The sections will be positioned one by one and welded together as construction of the jacket continues.
The completed IJmuiden Ver Beta jacket will be about 100 m long, 55 m wide and 46 m high, with a weight of around 10,000 tonnes.
A topside weighing almost 30,000 tonnes will be installed on the jacket. The topside is currently being built in Singapore.
The offshore converter platform for IJmuiden Ver Beta is being delivered together with contractor consortium GE Vernova–Seatrium.
IJmuiden Ver Beta will be the first in a series of new 2GW connections in the Dutch and German North Sea. The new infrastructure can transport larger volumes of wind power from the North Sea to shore.
