Kongsberg Maritime to Equip New Solstad Offshore-SBM Offshore Vessel

Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to supply technology and equipment for a new Solstad OffshoreSBM Offshore multi-purpose deepwater installation and construction vessel.

The vessel will be built in China and is intended for offshore installation, subsea construction and heavy-duty offshore operations.

The deck machinery package will include anchor-handling winches, shark jaws and tow pins designed for chains up to 220 mm. Kongsberg Maritime will also supply a newly developed low-tilt ROV launch and recovery system.

Its scope also covers dynamic positioning, thruster control, navigation, bridge and automation systems. The power and energy package will comprise switchboards, generators, propulsion motors and a battery energy storage system.

The propulsion configuration will use twin controllable-pitch propeller shaftlines, supported by azimuth thrusters, rudder systems and a complete thruster package. The azimuth thrusters are intended to enhance bollard pull.

The contract was announced on 25 August 2026 at ONS 2026 in Stavanger, Norway, by Lars Peder Solstad and Lisa Edvardsen Haugan.

The project will also mark the first delivery of anchor-handling winches powered by Kongsberg Maritime’s internally developed XT140 permanent magnet motor.
