Malaysia-based offshore site investigation specialist HELMS has won a long-term offshore soil and geotechnical investigation contract from PETRONAS CCS Solutions Sdn Bhd (PCCSS) to support carbon capture and storage developments across Malaysia.

The contract covers an initial three-year period, with an option to extend for a further two years. Its scope includes offshore geotechnical investigations for future CCS infrastructure, including carbon storage facilities, injection wells, offshore platforms, subsea pipelines and related offshore developments.

HELMS will provide offshore drilling and sampling, downhole CPTu testing, laboratory testing, pile capacity and jack-up assessments, drivability analysis and geotechnical reporting. The work will support engineering design and project execution for PETRONAS’ CCS business.

Managing Director Dato’ Ir. Helmi Zulkawi said the award reflected HELMS’ technical capabilities, operational excellence and commitment to safety. He said CCS was becoming an increasingly important part of Malaysia’s low-carbon future and that HELMS would contribute its experience to the national initiative.

The company said the contract will be executed using its specialized offshore assets, including the newly commissioned DP2 and 4-point mooring geotechnical vessel Keyfield Itqan, which is equipped with offshore drilling, sampling, downhole CPT and onboard geotechnical laboratory facilities.

The award further strengthens HELMS’ role in supporting offshore energy infrastructure, carbon management and Malaysia’s energy transition plans.
