Jan De Nul is taking part in its first Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project through the Northern Endurance Project in the North Sea.

The company will work as a subcontractor to Saipem and install protective rock over a CO₂ pipeline on the seabed.

The work will be carried out over the coming months using Simon Stevin. The vessel will place rock through a vertical fall pipe in water depths of 30 to 60 m.

The pipeline has a diameter of 1 m and will transport captured CO₂ from the Teesside and Humber industrial areas on the east coast of England to storage beneath the North Sea.

The Northern Endurance Project is the first CCS project involving Jan De Nul.
