Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) has completed sea trials of a new heavy-lift vessel ordered by Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company (Chipolbrok). The vessel has a deadweight of 38,000 tonnes.
It is the second of four heavy-lift ships planned for Chipolbrok’s global operations and has been built in accordance with DNV class rules. The vessel will operate under the Liberian flag.
The ship measures 182 m in length, 30 m in beam and 17 m in depth, with a design draught of 9.8 m. Its service speed is 14.5 knots.
Cargo-handling equipment includes three 350-tonne ZPMC cranes. Two cranes can work in tandem for heavy-lift operations. The vessel also has two 78.6 m cargo holds, an open deck and movable intermediate decks for oversized and project cargo.
A 1,000-kW battery energy storage system supports hybrid propulsion and allows electric-mode operation during low-speed and harbour operations.
The vessel is also fitted with ducted propellers designed to reduce hull resistance and improve operational efficiency.
The new vessel will join its sister ships in Chipolbrok’s global heavy-lift fleet.
