Maersk Training has opened a new training site in Kuala Lumpur through a partnership with Velesto Energy Academy, expanding its training presence in Malaysia.
Operating as Velesto Energy Academy, Powered by Maersk Training, the facility will provide simulation-based and accredited programmes for operators, drilling contractors and service companies in Malaysia and the wider region.
The Kuala Lumpur site includes classrooms, an immersive DS-6000 drilling simulator and a Major Emergency Management suite. The facilities are designed to recreate operational and emergency scenarios for technical training, decision-making and crew development.
Customised simulator-based programmes will also be offered to strengthen drill crew capability and support safety, efficiency and operational performance.
In 2025, more than 100 IWCF Well Intervention Pressure Control candidates received training locally with dedicated in-country instruction.
The Malaysian training portfolio includes IWCF Drilling Well Control and Well Intervention Pressure Control, cloud-based Jacking and Rig Move simulation, and drilling simulation courses covering MPD, DWOS and Stuck Pipe Prevention.
Other programmes include Well Engineering, Major Emergency Management Initial Response, emergency management training, onboard HSE and leadership coaching, and safety behavioural learning pathways.
Velesto Energy Academy is an HRD Corp-approved training provider, allowing Malaysian employers to claim levy funding for accredited technical and leadership programmes delivered locally.
Mark Smith, Head of Commercial for Asia, Middle East and Africa at Maersk Training, said the partnership combines international training standards with local delivery and HRD Corp alignment. He also cited strong Malaysian demand for practical, scenario-based training based on operational conditions.
Tuan Irhwan Tuan Idris, Head of Velesto Energy Academy, said the partnership would support the delivery of internationally recognised training to operators and drilling contractors across the region.
The new Kuala Lumpur site forms part of continued investment in talent development for the energy sector in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
