Iv to Design Ostwind 4 Topside for 2 GW Baltic Sea Platform

Drydocks World has selected Iv to design the topside of the Ostwind 4 offshore HVDC converter platform in the Baltic Sea.

Fabrication of the platform began with the first steel cut on 10 July.

The work forms part of the full engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract awarded by 50Hertz Transmission GmbH to a consortium comprising GE Vernova and Drydocks World.

Ostwind 4 will be the first 2 GW offshore platform designed by Iv for 50Hertz Transmission GmbH and the first platform of this capacity to be built in the Baltic Sea. It is the fourth platform that Iv has designed for 50Hertz Transmission GmbH.

Fedor van Veen, Managing Director Offshore & Energy at Iv, said the project requires offshore engineering expertise, collaboration and HVDC platform knowledge. He added that the project would support renewable energy transmission in the Baltic Sea region.

The platform will collect wind energy generated in the Baltic Sea, convert the electricity and transmit it more than 110 km to the German mainland. The system will use 525 kV HVDC technology for large-scale power transmission with limited losses.

Iv will provide the complete topside design and all auxiliary systems. The design work will also address limited access routes and strict environmental constraints.
