Hanwha Ocean has received Basic Design Review (BDR) certification from ABS for its standard FPSO design intended for deepwater projects in South America and West Africa.
The certification was issued after ABS assessed the front-end engineering design documentation prepared for the FPSO. The review covered key parts of the unit, with the hull, topsides and mooring system among the areas examined.
Alongside the BDR, ABS granted approval in principle (AiP) for design features developed to meet SUSTAIN-2 notation requirements.
Hanwha Ocean also received a Statement of Fact for its Project Sustainability Execution Plan (PSEP). The plan connects sustainability requirements with engineering deliverables, key performance indicators, responsibilities and verification evidence.
The reviews support Hanwha Ocean’s Low Carbon Standard FPSO development. The company intends to use the standardized design for large-scale projects in the South American and West African deepwater markets.
The certification follows separate pre-FEED work completed by Hanwha Ocean for deepwater oil and gas fields in West Africa. ABS also issued AiP for that design.
