Rosetti Marino has sent the Douglas CCS platform from the Port of Piombino in Italy for installation in Liverpool Bay, UK, under the Liverpool Bay CO₂ Transportation and Storage project.
The platform departed Piombino on Monday and is scheduled to be installed by the end of September. According to the project update, Douglas CCS will operate with three other offshore facilities as part of the infrastructure for transporting and permanently storing captured CO₂ from industrial areas in North West England and North Wales.
The sail-away follows the load-out of the Douglas CCS jacket and topside at Rosetti Marino‘s Piombino yard. The jacket was loaded out on 20 August 2026. The four-legged structure has a load-out weight of 1,755 tonnes, a height of 49.8 m and a footprint of 32 × 32 m including its sleeves. SPMTs in an 88-axle-line configuration were used for the operation.
The Douglas CCS topside was loaded out on 29 August 2026. Rosetti Marino reported a net weight of 1,855 tonnes, a load-out weight of 2,128 tonnes and overall dimensions of 39 × 35 m. The topside was also moved using SPMTs configured with 88 axle lines.
Rosetti Marino was awarded the offshore EPC contract by Liverpool Bay CCS Ltd on 30 April 2025. The contract is valued at more than €300 million and covers four offshore platforms. Its scope includes engineering, procurement, construction and load-out, as well as offshore hook-up and commissioning. The contracted work is scheduled for progressive completion between 2026 and 2028.
Liverpool Bay CCS forms part of the HyNet North West cluster. Eni said the project will use depleted gas reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay for permanent CO₂ storage and will incorporate converted and repurposed infrastructure. The transport and storage system is planned to start operating in 2028 with an initial capacity of 4.5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, rising to 10 million tonnes per year during the 2030s.
Douglas CCS is scheduled to undergo offshore installation in Liverpool Bay by the end of September.
