Aker BP has completed the offshore installation of the Valhall Production Wellhead Platform (PWP) topside, with Heerema Marine Contractors carrying out the final lift using Sleipnir.
The topside, weighing more than 16,500 t, was installed on the Valhall field after leaving Aker Solutions’ yard at Stord the previous week. The installation forms part of the Valhall PWP-Fenris development.
The new platform will connect the Valhall and Fenris fields and is intended to more than double gas processing capacity in the area.
According to Aker BP, the development has involved 17 yards and fabrication sites. Components included a jacket delivered by Drydocks World in Dubai, a flare tower from Aker Solutions in Sandnessjøen, a utility module from Worley Rosenberg in Stavanger, and a bridge and MEG module from Nymo – The J.J Ugland Companies in Grimstad.
Final assembly and integration took place at Stord before the topside was transported offshore for installation.
With the PWP topside in place, Heerema Marine Contractors has completed its offshore execution scope for Aker BP’s Yggdrasil and Valhall PWP-Fenris developments.
The contractor said its work covered transportation, lifting and installation activities involving multiple fabrication yards in Europe and offshore campaigns on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
The final campaign was carried out by Sleipnir, supported by Bylgia. Heerema Marine Contractors said the program involved 95,000 t of installed structures, following five years of preparation and three years of execution.
