Masirah Oil has started its Yumna infill drilling campaign in Oman’s offshore Block 50. Announcing the start of work on the first well on 21 October 2026, General Manager Mike Hopkinson said the company expected the new well to begin producing in November.
The operator holds a 100% interest in Block 50. Masirah Oil is an indirect 87.5%-owned subsidiary of Jasmine Energy, part of the Rex International group.
A separate contract announcement in August outlined drilling commitments offshore Oman. Arabian Drilling signed an agreement with Masirah Oil and Northern Offshore on 17 August 2026 covering two firm wells and options for two additional wells. The latest operational announcement did not identify the rig or specify the campaign’s total well count.
Yumna is located in the Gulf of Masirah, off eastern Oman, within the approximately 17,000-square-kilometre Block 50 concession. Oil production began in February 2020, making the November forecast a target for the new well rather than the field’s initial start-up.
The field development plan was approved in July 2020, alongside the declaration of commerciality. Yumna-2 entered production in January 2021, and Yumna-3 followed in February.
Changes to the offshore facilities came in 2022. A replacement floating storage tanker was introduced to allow several years of service at the field without dry-docking. The mobile offshore production unit was also exchanged for a unit with improved facilities.
A drilling programme launched in the fourth quarter of 2022 concluded in early 2023. It included drilling Yumna-4 and completing it for production, together with a workover to replace Yumna-3’s electrical submersible pump.
Further work in 2024 brought Yumna-5 into production in April. That programme also included workovers on three existing producing wells, adding one well to the initial workover scope.
Masirah Oil says it continues adjusting production rates to improve recovery and support long-term output.
