The forward hull section of MODEC’s FPSO Gato do Mato has left Japan for China after completion at Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd.’s Yokosuka shipyard.

The section will be integrated in China with the aft hull section, which is currently under construction. After integration, the full hull will move to the next phase of the project.

The project is the first to use MODEC’s Next Generation Hull design. The design was developed to improve constructability, scalability and execution efficiency for offshore developments.

MODEC is using a multi-yard construction model for the FPSO. The approach allows hull sections to be fabricated in parallel at different yards before integration.

The FPSO will have an oil production capacity of approximately 120,000 barrels per day. It will be moored in around 2,000 m of water, approximately 200 km south of Rio de Janeiro, using a SOFEC® spread mooring system.

FPSO Gato do Mato will be the 19th FPSO/FSO developed by MODEC for Brazil. It will also be the second unit delivered directly by MODEC to Shell for operation in the Orca Field.

Orca is being developed by Shell as operator, with Ecopetrol as partner. PPSA is participating as the Production Sharing Contract manager.
