Dutch Offshore Contractors B.V. has begun a major subsea cable transportation campaign for a European offshore energy project, with heavy-lift carrier FJORD departing from Vlissingen to support the operation.

For the project, Dutch Offshore Contractors B.V. has mobilized FJORD as a fully integrated subsea cable transport unit. In Soussaki, Greece, the vessel will support an intensive loading campaign covering about 200 km of subsea cable. The project includes a total loaded weight of 19,500 tonnes and the use of three carousels, each with a capacity of 9,000 tonnes.

The operation also features a dual spooling setup, allowing cables to be loaded directly and simultaneously from the factory while operating parameters are continuously monitored. Under the project scope, Dutch Offshore Contractors B.V. is responsible for the full turnkey execution, from initial engineering and deck-layout design to operational delivery, using only in-house equipment.

After the loading campaign is completed, FJORD will sail to Poland, where the cables will be offloaded directly onto the cable-laying vessel for installation. According to the company, this method reduces handling and supports operational efficiency.

The vessel FJORD is a Heavy Load Carrier built in 2001 and currently sailing under the flag of Panama. Her length overall (LOA) is 159.24 meters and her width is 45.5 meters.
