Altera Infrastructure has signed principal agreements with Eni to supply a new floating production storage and offloading vessel for the Baleine Phase 3 development offshore Côte d’Ivoire.
The agreements cover engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning for the new FPSO, as well as a fixed 15-year bareboat charter for production from the Baleine field.
Baleine Phase 3 is the next stage of the Baleine field development. The field is located about 70 km offshore Côte d’Ivoire in water depths of 700 m to 1,300 m.
The new FPSO will be built in China by Wison New Energies. It will be able to produce 90,000 barrels of oil per day, process 160 million cubic feet of gas per day and store up to 1.4 million barrels of crude oil.
Together with the existing Baleine developments, Phase 3 will increase total field production to about 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 200 million cubic feet of gas per day. All gas produced will be supplied to the domestic market to support Côte d’Ivoire’s energy needs, electricity generation and industrial development.
The project follows Altera Infrastructure’s role in Baleine Phase 2, where the company redeployed and now operates the FPSO Petrojarl Kong and FSO Yamoussoukro.
After construction is completed, Altera Infrastructure will own the new FPSO and provide long-term operations under the 15-year charter and related operating agreements.
Altera Infrastructure also completed project financing, securing long-term committed funding from international institutional investors. The financing covers the period from the start of construction through the full 15-year charter.
Chris Brett, President of Altera Production, said Baleine Phase 3 expands the company’s partnership with Eni and its commitment to Côte d’Ivoire.
