Two stainless steel chemical tanker hulls have been successfully discharged at Waalhaven in Rotterdam, with SafeSystems B.V. providing engineering support for the heavy-lift operation.

The Netherlands-based marine engineering company was responsible for padeye design, local deck strengthening, rigging plans and lifting calculations required to support the unloading process.

The engineering work addressed lifting arrangements and structural requirements associated with handling the two tanker hulls.

SafeSystems, which has 40 years of experience in marine and heavy-lift engineering, provides technical services for complex lifting operations, vessel discharge and project cargo handling.

The company did not disclose the weight or dimensions of the hulls, the identities of the vessels involved, or the completion date of the operation.

Each crane for BigLift Shipping’s Happy S will lift 1,100 tonnes at 23 metres outreach, with electric drives and booms that can be secured upright at sea to leave deck space available for oversized cargo.
Three power generation components weighing up to 335 tonnes were transported to Ireland, with Terra Marique using specially engineered ramps and SPMTs to discharge cargo at a tidal beach landing site.
Nine voyages carried 60,500 revenue tonnes from Taicang to Melbourne. AAL handled sections up to 113 tonnes and washed all deck cargo with fresh water before each arrival to meet biosecurity requirements.
