CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping have christened CY Frontier, the first vessel in a four-ship BC-Class Heavy Transport Vessel series.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of CY Shipping, BigLift Shipping and Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Jenny Jung served as the vessel’s godmother.
CY Frontier is the first newbuild in the BC-Class series for the companies’ joint Heavy Transport fleet. The vessels are designed for large offshore, energy and industrial modules, with cargo handling arranged to support both RoRo and skidding operations.
The BC-Class design measures 180 m in length and 43 m in beam. It has an unobstructed cargo deck of 6,020 m² and a deadweight capacity of 25,000 tonnes. Cargo can be loaded and discharged over the stern and the side. The vessels also include a high-capacity ballast system and tidal compensation capabilities for heavy transport and module installation projects.
The new class is compatible with BigLift Shipping’s MC-Class vessels, BigLift Barentsz and BigLift Baffin. Compared with the MC-Class, the BC-Class provides a longer cargo deck and enhanced stern-loading capability.
Johan Boer, Managing Director of BigLift Shipping, said the BC-Class would add cargo capacity, flexibility and operational efficiency to the company’s Heavy Transport fleet.
Construction of the other three BC-Class vessels is continuing on schedule. BigLift Pioneer, the second vessel in the series, is expected to be delivered later this year. By mid-2028, CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping are expected to operate a joint fleet of eight Heavy Transport Vessels for the offshore, energy and industrial sectors.
