HEBO Maritiemservice has deployed floating sheerleg HEBO Lift 9 for anchor handling operations on the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel project between Denmark and Germany.
The vessel is supporting Femern Link Contractors (FLC) during the immersion of tunnel elements. FLC is responsible for the tunnel element factory, immersed tunnel, portals and ramps. The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel will extend 18 km between Rødbyhavn in Denmark and Puttgarden in Germany.
As part of the immersion operation, HEBO Lift 9 places eight box-shaped anchors on the seabed. Each anchor weighs 500 t and is connected by long steel wires to the immersion pontoons IVY 1 and IVY 2. The anchors secure the pontoons while tunnel elements are lowered into the prepared trench.
The anchors are recovered after an immersion operation and can then be used for subsequent tunnel elements. According to project information published by Sund & Bælt, HEBO Lift 9 has a lifting capacity of 800 t, a lifting height of 67 m and a breadth of 27 m.
The anchor work forms part of the marine operations required to position the prefabricated tunnel elements. Project information identifies IVY 1 and IVY 2 among the purpose-built equipment used for the immersion process.
The tunnel consists of 79 standard elements and 10 special elements. Each standard element is 217 m long and comprises nine concrete segments.
The first tunnel element was immersed on 7 May 2026. By August 2026, three elements had been installed in the Fehmarnbelt.
