Sif has completed the final monopile load-out for the Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind farms, which are under construction in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea.

The two wind farms will have a combined capacity of 1,440 MW and use 100 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD turbines rated at 14.4 MW each. Bałtyk 2 and 3 are located about 37 km and 22 km from the coast near Ustka and Łeba.

A total of 100 monopile foundations and their transition pieces are being supplied by Sif and Smulders. The companies secured the work in 2024 from the developer, a joint venture between Polenergia and Equinor.

Foundation installation began this spring using Heerema Marine Contractors’ heavy-lift vessel Thialf. More than 50 monopiles and transition pieces had been installed by the beginning of July.

Work on the foundations for two offshore substations was scheduled to begin later this summer. Iemants, a subsidiary of Smulders, is handling the design and construction of both substations.

Bałtyk 2 and 3 are scheduled to generate first power in 2027, with full commissioning planned for 2028.

Equinor and Polenergia said the electricity produced by the two projects will be sufficient to meet the energy needs of up to two million households in Poland.
