EnBW has completed installation of all 64 wind turbines at the 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in Germany, with commissioning work continuing ahead of full operation expected in late summer.
Vestas installed the 64 turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW. The manufacturer is also investigating damage to a rotor blade that occurred in late July.
With a total capacity of 960 MW, He Dreiht is Germany’s largest offshore wind farm. The project is being developed without state funding and is located around 85 km northwest of Borkum and 110 km west of Heligoland.
According to EnBW, the wind farm will be capable of generating enough electricity to meet the needs of around 1.1 million households.
Around €2.4 billion is being invested in the project, which is being coordinated by EnBW’s offshore office in Hamburg.
Most of He Dreiht’s future electricity output has already been secured under long-term power purchase agreements. EnBW is in discussions with additional potential buyers for the remaining volumes.
A consortium comprising Allianz Global Investors, AIP Management and Norges Bank Investment Management holds a 49.9% stake in He Dreiht.
