Equinor, on behalf of its partners, has awarded contracts worth approximately NOK 6 billion for four subsea development projects on the Norwegian continental shelf.
The contracts cover the TWIN, Omega Sør, Tyrihans Nord and Brime projects. Together, the four developments are expected to contribute between 130 million and 220 million barrels of oil equivalent to future production.
The awards form part of the first of several planned subsea development waves. Equinor said the coordinated contracting model is intended to support faster execution and lower costs by allowing suppliers to work across several projects.
Equinor expects around 75 subsea developments on the Norwegian continental shelf by 2035. The company said it aims to reduce both development costs and execution time through simpler processes and standardised solutions with partners and suppliers.
Under the contracts, TechnipFMC will supply subsea production systems for Brime, Omega Sør and Tyrihans Nord. The company will also install rigid pipelines on the Troll field, with linepipe supplied by Tenaris.
OneSubsea will supply the subsea production system for the TWIN project and provide umbilicals for all four projects.
Ocean Installer has been awarded the marine operations contract. Its scope covers installation and connection of subsea facilities, control cables and flexible pipelines.
NOV will supply flexible pipelines for Omega Sør, Tyrihans Nord and Brime.
Equinor said early ordering of long-lead equipment is needed to shorten the time from discovery to production. Standard equipment ordered for the first wave could be used by later projects if one of the initial projects is not sanctioned by the partnership or approved by the authorities.
TWIN will be tied back to Troll A. Omega Sør is planned for tieback to Snorre A, while Tyrihans Nord is planned to be produced via the Kristin platform. Brime is planned for tieback to Gullfaks C through the existing Visund Sør subsea template.
So far, only the TWIN project has been sanctioned by the owners. The partnership has sent notification to Norway’s Ministry of Energy regarding the development in accordance with the Petroleum Act. The remaining projects will be processed under the decision-making procedures of the partnerships and authorities.
