COSCO SHIPPING has completed the transport of a large drilling platform aboard the semi-submersible heavy transport vessel XIANG YUN KOU.

The drilling platform has a height of 154.35 m. The transport covered towage and float-on loading before the offshore structure was carried aboard XIANG YUN KOU and subsequently floated off and positioned.

The operation was carried out while the teams faced typhoon-season conditions and busy shipping routes. Ship and shore personnel monitored weather conditions and adjusted the operation as required during the transport.

XIANG YUN KOU is listed by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Transport as a 50,000-DWT semi-submersible vessel. The company’s fleet data gives the vessel an overall length of 216.70 m and a moulded breadth of 43.00 m.

Detailed vessel specifications published by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Transport show a cargo deck measuring 177.60 m by 43.00 m. The vessel is also equipped for DP-2 operations and has a listed deck submersion of 13.00 m.

The vessel was delivered in 2011.
