COOEC has moved the Dongfang 1-1 CEPK platform as a single unit within its Qingdao International High-end Equipment Manufacturing Base. The company confirmed that the land transfer took place on 9 October 2026.

The platform weighs nearly 17,000 tonnes and has over 10,000 square metres of deck space. The move followed completion of the platform’s main structure on 4 October 2026.

Qingdao Daily’s Guanhai News reported on 16 October 2026 that departure for the South China Sea was planned for late October or early November 2026. At the time of that report, main equipment commissioning was expected to finish around 20 October 2026.

Earlier assembly work involved lifting two process skids onto the CEPK structure. An update supplied by CNOOC and published by China Energy News on 19 August 2026 described a combined operation using an 800-tonne gantry crane and two 750-tonne crawler cranes. The largest individual lift weighed 1,024 tonnes.

The equipment comprised a refrigeration skid and a low-temperature distillation skid for CO2 removal. The lifting team used three-dimensional simulation to check clearances and plan the movement path.

CEPK forms part of the Dongfang 1-1 carbon capture, utilisation and storage project. Its processing system combines membrane separation with low-temperature distillation to separate CO2 from natural gas. The captured CO2 is then pressurised for injection into geological formations.

After offshore positioning, the new platform is planned to connect to the gas field’s existing production system. The project is expected to store over 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually once in operation.

COOEC has begun hull assembly for the Kaiping cylindrical FPSO in Qingdao. The 182-section hull will form the central production and storage facility for a major deepwater oilfield development in the South China Sea.
A 3,600-tonne crawler crane placed the fully assembled living quarters at CNOOC Engineering’s Zhuhai base, replacing three separate lifts and assembly at height for the Huizhou 25-4 project.
CNOOC has completed the main structure of its Dongfang 1-1 CO2 injection platform in Qingdao. Pre-shipment commissioning is under way, while the nearly 8,000-tonne jacket is installed offshore.
