SLB and Equinor have signed a multi-year agreement for advanced reservoir stimulation services on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), including a major upgrade of the MV Island Captain.

The agreement secures dedicated offshore stimulation capacity for future wells and the development of tight reservoirs across the NCS.

As part of the agreement, the MV Island Captain will be converted into a fully proppant-capable stimulation vessel. The planned work includes expanded proppant storage, advanced handling and blending systems, increased pumping capacity and an optimized deck configuration for complex stimulation operations.

Following the upgrade, the vessel will be able to carry up to two million pounds of proppant. The additional capability will support high-intensity offshore stimulation treatments on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The dedicated capacity is intended to support tight-reservoir developments that require specialized stimulation systems for high-intensity treatments.

Ole Christian Meldahl, managing director for Scandinavia at SLB, said the agreement builds on the established relationship between the two companies. He said the MV Island Captain upgrade represents an investment in offshore stimulation capability for the NCS and will support future reservoir developments in the region.
