deugro has delivered two power transformers to Scotland from a factory in Germany, working with dteq Transport Engineering Solutions (dteq) on a journey involving river, sea and road transport. Both units reached the project destination safely and on time.
For the final road leg, deugro UK organised an 18-axle girder frame for a transport configuration exceeding 64 metres in overall length. The weight and handling sensitivity of the transformers required careful planning. The 74-kilometre route was checked beforehand for obstructions and restricted sections. Project managers from deugro accompanied the cargo, with personnel and escort vehicles positioned ahead of and behind the transport.
At the site, the units reached their assigned laydown area before being installed by single-direction jack-and-skid, meeting the project schedule.
The journey began with collection from the factory and a move to a nearby RO/RO jetty. Cargo restraint arrangements followed a design prepared by dteq. Personnel from deugro Germany and dteq oversaw the roll-on loading onto a barge, where grillage and stools had already been fitted to support the units.
Once the cargo had been seafastened to dteq’s design, the barge travelled along the Rhine to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The river passage took three days, and both units were unloaded at the port.
deugro secured a coaster charter for the sea leg. Teams from dteq and deugro Netherlands supervised loading, stowage and securing, using lifting and cargo restraint plans developed by dteq.
The coaster reached Leith, Edinburgh, on schedule following a three-day crossing. There, deugro UK managed the unloading of both units by tandem lift before their onward road movement.
