Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. has announced the naming of the 174,000 m3 LNG carrier HALWAN, which will be deployed by QatarEnergy for global LNG transportation.

The naming ceremony was held on 14 July 2026 at a facility operated by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. The vessel was named HALWAN after a source of water in Qatar.

HALWAN is the ninth vessel in a series of 12 LNG carriers being built for QatarEnergy by a joint venture sponsored by “K” LINE, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited and MISC Berhad, through its wholly owned subsidiary Portovenere and Lerici (Labuan) Pte Ltd.

The vessel is the second of three ships in the series for which the “K” LINE group is responsible for ship management. QatarEnergy is Qatar’s state energy company.

The LNG carrier has an overall length of approximately 299 m, a beam of 46.4 m and membrane tanks with a capacity of 174,000 m3. Its listed speed is 19.5 knt.

The propulsion system uses a low-pressure X-DF dual-fuel engine equipped with iCER. The vessel also has an Air Lubrication System, which generates air bubbles beneath the hull to reduce resistance between the vessel and seawater.

The two systems are intended to reduce fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact during operations.

Delivery is tentatively scheduled for July 2026.
