Around 5 GW of offshore wind capacity in UK waters is expected to enter its end-of-life phase in the early to mid-2030s, prompting OWC and GoBe Consultants to establish a decommissioning partnership.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop technical solutions for UK offshore wind decommissioning. Activity involving the identified assets could peak between 2032 and 2034.

Under the agreement, the partners will provide engineering, environmental planning and consultancy services to help asset owners prepare, plan and carry out decommissioning campaigns.

The collaboration combines OWC’s offshore wind engineering and project and environmental advisory capabilities with the environmental, consenting and regulatory services of GoBe Consultants and its parent company, APEM Group.

The companies said decommissioning programs involve technical, environmental and cost uncertainties and require planning across the full process, from initial strategy to delivery.
