Seatrium has cut first steel for LNGT Karadeniz, the first high-capacity floating storage and regasification unit being converted for Kinetics, an initiative established by Karpowership.
The LNG carrier-to-FSRU conversion is under way at Seatrium’s Tuas Boulevard yard in Singapore. The vessel will provide up to 600 million cubic feet per day of regasification capacity.
LNGT Karadeniz is the first of three LNG carrier-to-FSRU conversions covered by an earlier letter of intent between Seatrium and Karpowership. It is also the eighth FSRU conversion project undertaken by the two companies.
The conversion includes a regasification module, spread mooring system and supporting systems for cargo handling, LNG offloading, utilities, electrical distribution and automation.
Seatrium said the integration of these systems during a live conversion requires engineering expertise, project coordination and established delivery capabilities.
According to Kinetics, the vessel will be equipped with low-, medium- and high-pressure send-out systems. These systems will allow it to serve a broader range of LNG import projects and downstream gas networks.
Mehmet Katmer, General Manager of Kinetics, said LNGT Karadeniz marks an important stage in the company’s plans for floating LNG infrastructure. He said the expansion of its FSRU fleet would support countries seeking to improve energy security and move towards lower-carbon energy systems.
Kinetics develops floating energy infrastructure as part of Karpowership’s integrated energy offering.
