Vår Energi has received consent from the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) to start up and operate Balder Phase VI on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

The Balder field is located in the central North Sea, west of the Grane field, in a water depth of 125 m. The field was discovered in 1967. Its original Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) was approved in 1996, and production began in 1999.

The development consists of subsea wells connected to the Balder FPSO for production, storage and offloading. The Balder complex also includes the Ringhorne deposit, which is located about 9 km north of the vessel.

Ringhorne is equipped with a combined accommodation, drilling and wellhead facility. It is tied back to the Balder and Jotun FPSOs for crude oil processing, storage and gas export.

A revised PDO covering Balder and Ringhorne was approved in June 2020. The development plan includes the relocation and lifetime extension of the Jotun FPSO together with the drilling of new subsea wells.
