VARD Delivers Hybrid Cable Laying Vessel to Toyo Construction

VARD has delivered a hybrid construction and cable laying vessel to Toyo Construction Co Ltd at Vard Langsten in Norway.

The handover took place on 26 June 2026, with representatives from Toyo Construction and the VARD Group attending the ceremony.

The vessel is the first ordered by Toyo Construction from VARD. It is also the first vessel VARD has delivered to Japan’s offshore wind market.

The hull was built at Vard Shipyards Romania – Tulcea, while outfitting, commissioning and delivery were completed at Vard Langsten. VARD said the vessel was delivered on time.

The vessel is 151 m long and has a beam of 28 m. It has a cable carrying capacity of 9000 tonnes and is designed for cable laying and other offshore construction work.

The vessel is equipped with a removable cable lay system, two offshore cranes, a 4-point mooring system and a helideck. It also has a large deck area and can support work including foundation construction, floating offshore wind mooring operations and marine resource-related projects.

The vessel is based on the VARD 9 15 design. According to the company, the design was developed for Toyo Construction and adapted for Japan’s offshore wind conditions, including shallow-water and deep-water operations.

The vessel includes a large battery pack, shore power connection and energy management system. These systems are intended to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2, NOx and SOx emissions during operations and port mooring.

Vard Electro supplied SeaQ equipment and solutions, including SeaQ Power with energy storage systems, switchboards and shore connection. The company also delivered onboard network, entertainment and communication systems.
