Boskalis has started subsea rock installation at the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms with its recently commissioned vessel Windpiper.
The assignment is the first project for Windpiper, which loaded nearly 45,000 tonnes of rock in Norway shortly after its christening.
The cargo represents a record for a single subsea rock installation vessel carrying rock for one installation project.
At Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, Windpiper is placing rock to protect export cables connecting the offshore wind farms with the Polish mainland. The vessel is using its inclined fallpipe for the installation work.
The two offshore wind projects are being developed by Equinor and Polenergia Offshore Wind Poland in the Baltic Sea.
The campaign marks the first operational use of Windpiper on an offshore project following its commissioning and christening.
Boskalis is also working with Van Oord on the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 developments in Poland.
