Taiwan plans to begin selecting floating offshore wind demonstration projects in 2027, with two sites expected to be chosen and a possible third site added if necessary.
The Energy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs outlined the draft selection framework at an industry meeting. Each demonstration site will include between six and 12 floating platforms.
Projects will be evaluated in three areas: technical capability, financial capability and sustainability cooperation.
The technical assessment will examine the planning and execution capabilities of floating offshore wind farm development projects. Financial capability will be assessed based on the development team’s funding scale and financial structure planning.
Sustainability cooperation will focus on environmental friendliness, local cooperation and talent development.
Each selected site must complete construction and grid connection by the end of 2032.
Projects that install all floating platforms by the end of 2032, or connect at least half of them to the grid by that deadline, may complete the remaining construction and grid connection in the following year.
The Energy Administration held a briefing meeting on the draft demonstration project to gather stakeholder opinions and improve the selection mechanism.
