Samsung Heavy Industries is strengthening its position in the global floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) sector by constructing three large-scale FLNG units at its Geoje Shipyard at the same time.
The projects are Petronas FLNG, Coral Norte FLNG, and Cedar FLNG in Canada. According to Samsung Heavy Industries, this marks the first simultaneous construction of three large FLNG units at a single shipyard.
The company also recently held a contract signing ceremony for Delfin FLNG, a project valued at $2.9 billion. The project is described as the first offshore FLNG development in the United States.
Samsung Heavy Industries said its FLNG progress is supported by smart shipyard capabilities, including Engineering Data Hub (S-EDH), Digital Transformation (DX), Artificial Intelligence (AX), and Robotics (RX). These technologies are being used to automate design and production processes for complex construction work.
The Delfin FLNG signing ceremony was attended by representatives from global energy companies, a major asset manager, leading shipping companies, and Korean and U.S. government officials. The company said the event reflected confidence in its FLNG technology and project execution capabilities.
Samsung Heavy Industries said it will continue to use its LNG project experience to support the LNG value chain and create opportunities for sustainable growth.
