Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) plans to expand and relocate its Busan R&D Center as workload increases with the start of detailed engineering for the Delfin FLNG project.

The company will invest about KRW 8.6 billion in the expanded center at the Munhyeon Financial Complex in Nam-gu, Busan. The facility will cover approximately 1,700 pyeong.

The expansion is linked to increased engineering activity following Samsung Heavy Industries’ recent FLNG order from Delfin. The company also plans to recruit additional offshore engineering and research personnel through 2028.

The Busan R&D Center has mainly handled detailed engineering work for shipbuilding and offshore projects. Under the expansion plan, its role will be extended to include sales, research and information technology functions.

Samsung Heavy Industries plans to develop the expanded facility as an integrated engineering base for its offshore business.
