SAL is set to strengthen its project cargo capabilities through the long-term charter of three Octopus 12.6 class newbuildings, extending its capacity to manage complex cargo transportation projects across global markets.
Designed by CSSC-SDARI, the next-generation multipurpose heavy-lift vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028. The vessels have been developed with a focus on versatility, operational flexibility, and performance in demanding environments, reflecting the design philosophy associated with the Octopus series.
Each vessel will feature a large box-shaped cargo hold, a combined crane capacity of 500 tonnes, Ice Class 1A notation, and a fuel-efficient design. The ships are intended to support a broad range of project cargo and heavy-lift operations.
According to SAL, the fleet expansion is aimed at enhancing operational capabilities rather than simply increasing vessel numbers. The company stated that continued investment in fleet modernization is intended to align with the evolving requirements of global project logistics.
Once delivered, the three Octopus 12.6 vessels are expected to further reinforce SAL’s ability to provide flexible and reliable transport solutions for customers worldwide.
