Tree C will develop a training simulator for Fleeming Jenkin, the methanol-fuelled cable-laying vessel operated by Belgian offshore contractor Jan De Nul.

The simulator is intended to let crews practise the vessel’s control systems and operating procedures before offshore work. Tree C said the setup will replicate onboard control equipment and combine it with a physics-based operating environment to create realistic training conditions.

Fleeming Jenkin is slated to install subsea power cables for offshore renewable energy projects. The 215 m vessel is equipped with three cable carousels with a combined capacity of about 28,000 tonnes, plus two fibre-optic tanks and three 50 t tensioners.

The vessel can lay up to five cables at the same time and operate in water depths of up to 3,000 m. Delivery is expected later this year.
