Mammoet has successfully executed a key fabrication yard milestone for the BorWin6 offshore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) platform in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. The company transported, loaded out and moored a 5,461-tonne offshore jacket foundation that will support the BorWin6 converter platform in the German North Sea.
The loadout operation was performed as part of Mammoet’s subcontract scope supporting McDermott International’s engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) works on the BorWin6 project, developed by TenneT. The jacket was moved using 216 axle lines of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) with four power pack units, and winches were used for safe mooring during quay operations. The foundation and piles are now secured and ready for sail-away to Europe.
The BorWin6 offshore grid connection is a 980 MW HVDC link designed to transmit wind energy generated in the German North Sea to the mainland grid, strengthening capacity and supporting the energy transition.
Following this milestone, Mammoet will shift focus to the next fabrication yard phase later in 2026. This includes the jack-up, weighing and eventual loadout of the approximately 17,000-tonne topside structure using Mammoet’s Mega Jack system.
