MISC Group has named Th’ailib, a 174,000 cubic metre LNG carrier, at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. The vessel is the first of three newbuild LNG carriers secured under long-term time charter agreements with QatarEnergy and will be chartered for a firm 15-year period from 2026.

The three vessels are part of MISC Group‘s participation in QatarEnergy’s LNG fleet expansion programme. The company previously participated in Phase One through a consortium arrangement involving 12 LNG carriers before securing three vessels under Phase Two, bringing the total across the two phases to 15 vessels.

Th’ailib is equipped with dual-fuel engines, a reliquefaction system, an anti-fouling hull coating and an air lubrication system. The equipment is designed to improve fuel efficiency, optimise energy use and support lower emissions intensity.

The vessel also features navigation, safety and monitoring systems for operations at sea. MISC Group said Th’ailib was designed and constructed in accordance with applicable International Maritime Organization requirements and international maritime standards.

The name Th’ailib is derived from Jabal Thuaileb in Qatar’s Fox Hills district. Representatives from QatarEnergy, MISC Group, Samsung Heavy Industries and DNV attended the naming ceremony on 6 October 2026, together with Lady Sponsor Puan Zakiah Zainab Zakaria.

Th’ailib is now entering service, while the two other vessels secured by MISC Group under the Phase Two arrangement are scheduled for delivery.
