The Maersk Chattogram drydocking at L&T’s Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai will cover the vessel’s 10-year planned maintenance, including a special survey. The ship sails under Singapore’s flag and has arrived in India, with The Economic Times reporting confirmation from officials on 20 October 2026.

Maersk has chosen an Indian yard for a planned docking for the first time. The scope includes structural and hull work, together with overhaul of propulsion systems, machinery and other onboard equipment. The yard will use a shiplift to take the ship out of the water. Maersk says the facility is the largest of its kind in India.

The vessel dates from 2016 and entered Maersk service in 2022. It measures 186 metres, carries up to 2,754 TEU and has a deadweight of 37,157 tonnes.

Maersk’s drydocking announcement links the job to its memorandum with Larsen & Toubro, signed during India Maritime Week 2025. The companies identify this docking as the initial operational undertaking under their agreement. The memorandum provides for exploring ship construction and repair cooperation and sharing technical knowledge.

Indian marine-service businesses, suppliers and subcontractors are expected to participate alongside L&T and Maersk’s fleet-management and technical personnel.

The yard’s repair experience includes overhauls for ships of the US Military Sealift Command and Britain’s Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Maersk has a separate memorandum with Cochin Shipyard to explore repair and maintenance services as well as ship construction.

Beyond the repair agreements, Maersk moved Maersk Vigo and Maersk Vilnius onto India’s ship register in October 2025. The Maritime Executive reports that CMA CGM has six Indian-flagged containerships and that the national register includes 41 containerships.

CMA CGM also plans to have Cochin Shipyard build six feeder vessels of 1,700 TEU each. The initial delivery is scheduled no later than February 2029.
