EnBW has inaugurated the 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea after completing installation of all 64 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines.
The inauguration was held on 17 September 2026. He Dreiht is located about 85 km northwest of Borkum and 110 km west of Heligoland. With 960 MW of installed capacity, it is Germany’s largest offshore wind farm. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of around 1.1 million households.
Offshore construction started in May 2024 with foundation installation. The turbine campaign followed in April 2025, when Cadeler deployed Wind Orca to begin installing the V236-15.0 MW units.
He Dreiht represents the first commercial-scale installation of the V236-15.0 MW turbine. Wind Keeper joined the campaign in the first quarter of 2026 and carried out the remaining turbine installation work under Cadeler’s long-term agreement with Vestas.
The installation phase was completed on 12 August 2026 when the final turbine was installed.
Vestas secured the firm 960 MW turbine order in September 2023. The contract covers 64 V236-15.0 MW turbines and includes a five-year service agreement followed by a long-term operational support arrangement.
Around €2.4 billion has been invested in He Dreiht. EnBW holds a 50.1% stake, while the remaining 49.9% is owned by a consortium consisting of Allianz Global Investors, AIP Management and Norges Bank Investment Management.
EnBW secured He Dreiht in Germany’s 2017 offshore wind auction without a state subsidy entitlement. Electricity from the project is being marketed through long-term power purchase agreements.
Commissioning is continuing across the completed wind farm. Several turbines have already begun feeding electricity into the German grid, while testing and grid connection work is progressing on the remaining units. EnBW expects full operation to be reached over the coming months.
