China’s Trawind Shipping and Logistics has taken delivery of Trawind Shanghai, a new multi-purpose cargo vessel built by Lushun Binhai Shipbuilding and Repair.
The Marshall Islands-flagged Trawind Shanghai becomes the 18th vessel in Trawind Shipping’s active fleet. The company has recently begun expanding its operations to include international as well as domestic services.
The vessel is the first in a new series of multi-purpose carriers capable of transporting general cargo, breakbulk and project cargo. A second vessel in the series is scheduled for delivery to Trawind Shipping before the end of this year.
Classed by China Classification Society, Trawind Shanghai measures 103.08 m in length and 17.6 m in beam, with a draught of 6.8 m and a depth of 9.3 m. The vessel has a deadweight of 6,300 and a gross tonnage of 5,303.
Cargo handling equipment includes two deck cranes, each with a capacity of 60 tonnes, with tandem lifting capability. The vessel also has a box-shaped cargo hold able to accommodate oversized cargo up to 13.5 m long.
Propulsion is provided by a diesel engine supplied by Qingdao Zichai Boyang, giving the vessel a service speed of approximately 12.5 knots. The low-resistance hull form is stated to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% compared with vessels of a similar size.
Electrical power for onboard systems is supplied by one 250 kW generator and three 350 kW generators.
Dalian Yihuitong Ship Management is responsible for operating Trawind Shanghai.
