Sarens has carried out lifting work on the Rosa Luxemburg Footbridge over the Bassin Dusuzeau in Strasbourg, France, for client BERTHOLD, including the placement of an 80 m-long steel section.
According to Sarens, several elements were lifted during the operation. The largest measured 80 m long, 12 m wide and 7 m high.
The pedestrian and cycle bridge forms part of Strasbourg’s Deux-Rives / Zwei-Ufer urban development. The crossing will span 158 m in four sections, with a width ranging from 7.5 m to 11.5 m. The deck will be positioned between 5.3 m and 9 m above the water.
The bridge will connect the Citadelle district with Quai des Belges and Parc de la Citadelle across the Bassin Dusuzeau. Its structure includes a 58 m arch rising to almost 7 m above the bridge deck.
Steel components were manufactured and trial-assembled at Dieue-sur-Meuse before being transported to Strasbourg. Around 100 metal elements were to be assembled into five sections for installation using a crane on a barge.
The project team comprises Bouygues Travaux Publics Régions France, STRATES Ouvrages d’Art, BERTHOLD, WSP/BG Ingénierie and Acte2Paysage. BERTHOLD is the steelwork contractor.
The project has a total budget of €11.5 million excluding tax, with the bridge scheduled to enter service in early 2027.
