Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) has become the sole owner of the Baltic II offshore wind project in the Polish Baltic Sea after RWE sold its stake in the development.

Baltic II is planned with a capacity of 350 MW and will be built about 50 km offshore, north of the Polish town of Ustka. The transaction also covered the transfer from RWE to PGE of the Environmental Decision and related data for the adjacent offshore development area 44.E.1.

RWE said PGE was better placed to deliver the Baltic II project than RWE would have been on a standalone basis. The German utility also said its target to expand its offshore wind portfolio remains unchanged.

The company currently operates 19 offshore wind farms in five countries with total installed capacity of 6.2 GW. RWE’s share of that capacity stands at 3.3 GW.

In parallel, RWE has four offshore wind projects under construction in four countries: Sofia off northern England, Thor in Denmark, OranjeWind off the Dutch coast, and Nordseecluster north of the German island of Juist.

Together, those four projects are set to provide 4.8 GW of generation capacity when completed, with RWE’s share amounting to 3.1 GW.
