Wärtsilä will deliver the propulsion engines for a purpose-built semi-submersible heavy transport vessel (HTV) under construction for Switzerland-based Allseas Group at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China. The order entered Wärtsilä’s books in Q4 2025.
The newbuild is designed to curb exhaust emissions and improve fuel efficiency. It will be equipped with four Wärtsilä 31 engines, selected for a modular architecture intended to cut maintenance demands and related costs, and for readiness to adopt alternative sustainable fuels.
Sytske de Groot, Manager, Naval Architecture at Allseas Group, said the HTV is expected to add fleet flexibility for project execution, while supporting a transition path toward low- and zero-carbon fuels aligned with the company’s sustainability ambitions.
Each engine will be fitted with a Wärtsilä NOx Reducer for emissions abatement. Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
Stefan Nysjö, Vice President, Power Supply at Wärtsilä, noted that the Wärtsilä 31’s fuel-efficiency profile can lower operating costs and that its conversion capability is intended to support decarbonisation planning. Wärtsilä has previously supplied equipment to Allseas Group, including engines for Braveheart.
