China-based Wison New Energies has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register for a harsh-environment floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) design using an internal turret mooring system.
The approval was granted after Lloyd’s Register completed an independent review at the concept stage. The AiP provides early technical validation for a standardized floating production concept designed for complex offshore operating conditions.
According to Lloyd’s Register, internal turret FPSOs are widely used in harsh metocean conditions. However, they remain among the most technically complex floating production systems because of the interfaces between hull structures, mooring systems, risers, and topside layouts.
Lloyd’s Register said concept-stage assurance can reduce uncertainty and help project stakeholders make earlier decisions with greater technical confidence.
Wison New Energies said the completed harsh-environment FPSO design adds to its existing portfolio, which already includes standard FPSO and gas-type FPSO designs. The company said the broader portfolio gives it the capability to address around 90% of current global FPSO demand.
The approval also supports Wison New Energies’ work to develop FPSO concepts that can be deployed more rapidly and reliably in challenging offshore regions.
