Synergy Marine Group and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) have signed a memorandum of understanding covering potential newbuilding, ship repair and vessel conversion projects in India.
The MoU was signed in Kochi on 22 September 2026 by Ajay Chaudhry, Co-CEO Ship Management at Synergy Marine Group, and Rajesh Gopalakrishnan, Director (Technical) at Cochin Shipyard Limited. Jesper Kristensen, Group CEO of Synergy Marine Group, and Jose V J, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited, attended the signing.
The agreement provides a framework for the companies to pursue opportunities in newbuilding, ship repair, conversion, module fabrication and oil and gas projects.
Under the arrangement, Cochin Shipyard Limited will provide shipbuilding and repair facilities, while Synergy Marine Group can contribute owners’ representation, engineering, project management and technical management services.
Synergy Marine Group can also provide technical and strategic advisory services for newbuilding projects agreed with Cochin Shipyard Limited. Its role can cover project planning, execution and quality assurance. Potential projects will be considered individually based on customer requirements and the facilities available at the yard.
The MoU does not include confirmed vessel orders, contract values or a fixed investment commitment.
According to Synergy Marine Group, the company has supported more than 250 newbuilding projects. It is currently involved with more than 150 vessels under construction at 20 shipyards across six countries.
The Singapore-headquartered company manages more than 750 vessels across segments including bulk carriers, containerships, oil and chemical tankers, gas carriers and floating storage and regasification units.
Synergy Marine Group also cites experience in LNG carrier-to-FSRU conversions. Its work in this area has covered feasibility studies, engineering design, equipment procurement, site supervision, commissioning, preparation for operations and subsequent technical management.
Cochin Shipyard Limited is a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The company undertakes commercial and defence shipbuilding and repair projects for customers in India and overseas.
