Saipem has secured a $1 billion offshore contract from Azule Energy for transportation and installation work on the Greater PAJ development offshore Angola.
The project is one of the largest ultra-deepwater developments currently under way in sub-Saharan Africa. The contract will run for approximately 40 months and covers engineering, fabrication, transportation and installation services for subsea infrastructure at the field, located around 200 km off Angola.
Saipem will install approximately 180 km of rigid pipelines and subsea facilities in water depths of up to 2,000 m. The scope also includes transportation and installation of 38 km of flexible flowlines and jumpers, along with 54 km of umbilicals.
Fabrication work will be carried out at Saipem’s Ambriz yard in Angola, with local suppliers and workforce expected to be involved in the project execution.
For offshore installation, Saipem plans to deploy the construction vessels FDS and Castorone.
The award follows a separate contract secured by TechnipFMC from Azule Energy to supply flexible flowlines and risers for the same development.
Azule Energy, jointly owned by Eni and BP, is Angola’s largest independent oil and gas producer and has been advancing offshore projects as the country seeks to offset declining output from mature fields.
