Namura Shipbuilding has approved the Imari Steel Center merger to integrate steel handling and processing into the parent company ahead of further growth in its newbuilding business. The planned effective date is 1 April 2027.

The 30 September merger disclosure sets out an absorption merger in which Namura Shipbuilding would remain in existence and its wholly owned subsidiary Imari Steel Center would be dissolved.

The subsidiary operates next to the Imari shipyard in Saga Prefecture. It supplies shipbuilding steel to the yard, handling unloading, sorting, storage and processing.

Namura Shipbuilding intends to bring these functions and quality assurance under unified management. The company expects the integration to improve manufacturing efficiency, accelerate decisions and make better use of personnel and other resources. Recruitment and training are also priorities as it prepares for expansion of its newbuilding operations.

The board adopted the merger resolution on 30 September 2026. The announcement listed 1 October as the agreement signing date.

No shares or other assets would be allocated because the subsidiary is wholly owned. The company expects only a minor impact on consolidated results.
