HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has signed a contract to build two LNG-related vessels worth a combined 885 billion won.

The order covers one floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) valued at 492.8 billion won and one LNG carrier valued at 392.2 billion won. Both vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered by the first half of 2029.

An FSRU is a special-purpose vessel that regasifies liquefied natural gas at sea before supplying it to shore.

With the latest order, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has secured contracts for 14 FSRUs. In 2014, the company built the 170,000-cubic-meter LNG-FSRU Independence for Norway’s Hoegh LNG.

Including this contract, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has received orders for 133 vessels worth $15.72 billion, or about 24.5 trillion won, so far this year. The figure equals 67.4% of its annual order target of $23.31 billion, or about 36.3 trillion won.
