Hanwha Ocean has started construction of the 390 MW Shinan Ui Offshore Wind Project off Shinan, South Korea. The offshore wind farm is targeted for completion in 2029.
The company is serving as the project developer and lead engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Its responsibilities cover project development, permitting, financing, engineering, procurement and construction.
Shinan-Ui Offshore Wind is backed by a consortium comprising Hanwha Ocean, SK Eternix, Korea Midland Power, Future Energy Fund and Hyundai Engineering & Construction, according to Vestas.
The project will use 26 V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbines supplied by Vestas. The turbine order also includes a 20-year service agreement. Turbine deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027.
ABL has been appointed as marine warranty surveyor for the project’s transportation and installation work. Its scope includes reviews of technical documents and marine procedures, vessel suitability surveys and attendance during warranted marine operations.
Separately, Hanwha Ocean is investing approximately KRW 800 billion in a next-generation Wind Turbine Installation Vessel. The company has not specified in the provided release whether the vessel will be deployed on the Shinan Ui project.
The project forms part of Hanwha Ocean’s offshore wind activities in South Korea, where the company is handling both development and EPC responsibilities.
